Voy A Espana!
A blog by an English language assistant
Welcome to Adventures in Spain! I'm a 2023-2024 Fulbright English language assistant based in Galicia, and this is a website I made to document my experiences and what I learn about teaching English as a second language.
About Me
I a 24 year old autistic person who seeks to document their experiences as an English language assistant in Spain. By describing my experiences from my autistic and trans perspective, I hope to give advice and insight to future language assistants who may hold those identities.
During my time in college, I double majored in English and Spanish. I worked as a writing tutor reviewing essays and giving students feedback, and I also worked closely with the head of my college's writing department to improve the current writing tutor system and expand their resources. After college, I took a TEFL course which also included practicum time, which I completed by teaching English to adults at my local library. Furthermore, I began teaching coding to children 7-14 years old, which is how I learned to code and what encouraged me to make this site. I also taught swim lessons. Now, I hope to continue learning about English, Spanish, and language teaching during my time in Spain.
My hobbies include drawing, reading, writing, coding websites and games, playing computer games, crocheting, language learning, and roller skating when I have the time. I have a huge interest in English literature , particularly Victorian and Modernist, as well as animals, especially dogs and reptiles. During my time in Spain, I hope to expand my hobbies by improving my cooking skills and traveling more.
